- Come and share in an adventure this Christmas time beginning November 30th as we take a most revealing look at the Christmas stories in a new book, "The First Christmas." "In the 'The First Christmas,' two of today's top Jesus scholars, Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan, join forces to show how history has biased our reading of the Nativity story as it appears in the gospels of Matthew and Luke...here they explore the beginning of the life of Christ, peeling away the sentimentalism that has built up over the last two thousand years around this most well know of all stories to reveal the truth of what the gospels actually say. Borg and Crossan help us to see this well-known narrative afresh by answering the question, 'What do these stories mean?' in the context of both the first century and the twenty-first century. They successfully show that the Christmas story, read in its original context , is far richer and more challenging than people imagine. The public is invited to share in this exciting, enrich journey of faith.
- The Church Council meetings are always open to RCP members. At our next meeting on 11/25 at 7:00 pm in the Holman Music room, a portion of the meeting will be set aside to hear any input on the projected 2009 program plan and discuss any ideas. The next work session to revisit the program plan for any changes is 12/23 when we will have a better understanding of the results of our pledge drive. The Church Council may be contacted with written feedback on the projected 2009 program plan. Please put your ideas in the Church Council mail slot.
